Lifelong dreams

When I was in Kindergarten, I LOOOVED school. I decided then and there (probably that very first day,)I would someday be a teacher. Because I come from a family of storytellers, poets, and songwriters - learning has always been a creative and fun experience for me (except for Algebra, I can't get those years back!)

After high school, I went to college with big dreams of being a music educator - until I saw all the other people in the music field and how well they DIDN'T treat each other. I didn't think I was egotistical enough to make it in that field. (Granted, I know MANY good music educators who do NOT fit this mold . . . but I don't think they were in school the same time I was!)

I decided to switch to Elementary Education. I was very excited about that -- until the first lab class where we had to teach a small group of fourth graders. Those kids TERRIFIED me. I couldn't believe how they treated their teacher, me, and each other. I was very disillusioned. I eventually dropped out of college and went back home.

After a few years of growing up and getting an education from the world - I went back and finished my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities. Now, here is the problem . . . what do I do with that???

I'm sharing a video here (fan-made on YouTube by vinzbee) from the hit broadway musical Avenue Q that talks about this situation in a hysterical way. (the rest of the songs are hysterical too, if you have a sick sense of humor, like I do.)



I'm not the only one who found out that having a BA in Liberal Arts doesn't help in the job search - and why I decided to get a Masters in Business Communications!

So the point of this post is that I finally get to live my lifelong dream and teach some online classes in the fall. I am very excited and scared all at the same time.

My friend Traci Root

I have to take a minute and tell you about my friend Traci. I've known Traci since she was 12 years old and I have a hard time thinking of her as anything but the scrawny little girl with the beautiful smile and huge heart, who I loved hanging out with because of her humor and intelligence way beyond her years. But when I watch this video - I marvel at her talent and I have to accept that she has grown up and is bound for great things.

I am so proud of how far she has come since "I knew her when", but mostly I am blessed that I can call Traci my friend. I am sharing this video with all of you here in hopes that you will check out her music, download her songs (available on iTunes), and support her amazing ministry.

A few months ago, I shared some videos I found online that a church was using - a spin-off of Mac vs. PC commercials. Well my church has started doing the same sort of thing, but a little bit different. Our sermon series is entitled "Life: HD" and these videos are entitled Cutting Edge vs. Old School.

I wanted to share these videos as they come out - because I believe some of you will appreciate them. :-)

My cat thinks she is a dog . . .

She is obsessed with the toilet. She will scratch at the door until you let her in.

Then she likes to watch the water go down when you flush it. And - if I don't catch her in time, she then does this. She has almost fallen in several times.

I love the way her paws are anchoring her from falling completely in.

But at least we don't have this problem . . .

As Promised . . . One Whining Wet Cat . . .

Well folks, here it is . . .

This video was taken right after Rufus completed his bath. Rufus is a very large cat - not necessarily chubby, but SOLID and long.

And have I mentioned that all of my cats have all of their claws? I think I'm going to invent a new sport called "Extreme Cat Bathing." Not sure too many people would want to attempt it.

Anyway - here is Rufus looking forlornly at his wet physique in the mirror and whining about how horrible he looks.
