Fitness Challenge!

Yes, I'm letting one blog bleed into another for just a moment.

I've committed to doing a fitness challenge - do any of you want to do it with me?? It is a 6 week program that should make you capable of doing 100 consecutive push-ups by the time you are finished with the program.

I'm not sure that I'm up to the task - but I'm sure going to attempt it!!

Here are the details: http://www.hundredpushups.com/challenge.html

Leave a comment if you're as crazy as I am and want to try it with me!! (I'll be posting my progress on the other blog. If I stop posting, you'll know it didn't go well. LOL!!)

Week One Update - Down 7.2 Pounds!

I knew that losing 100 pounds would not be easy on my own. I had never been a big fan of Weight Watchers, mostly because I don't like going to those type of meetings. I know that a lot of people love them and they are a huge help, but I knew I would always find an excuse NOT to go to them. That's just me.

However, Weight Watchers now has an entirely ONLINE program, which is right up my alley. I loved taking classes online - so I decided to check it out. And as you can see by the subject of this post, IT'S WORKING!

To lose weight, you really have to get into the mindset that it is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE, not a diet. WW gives you the tools to make it a lifestyle change - and it really isn't hard. It is flexible enough that you can still live your normal life and eat well too.

My biggest wakeup call was when I typed in the food I might normally eat in a day, tallied it up, and realized it was over 3-4 times more POINTS® than I should have been eating! Wow. Now that I know what to look for, it is easier to make better choices - and still not be hungry!

AND THE BEST PART - I can still have chocolate. :-)

My 100th Post!

If my calculations are correct, this is my 100th blog post. Wow. I think I'm supposed to do something super fantastic with this post, so let's see . . .

I'VE GOT IT!

You've probably noticed me talking off and on about trying to get healthy and lose weight. I come from a family that has always struggled with weight. I was a pretty active teenager and never really struggled with weight issues until my 20s, and now it's gotten worse in my 30s.

Unfortunately, I also come from a family that deals with a lot of health issues (among those, diabetes and heart problems . . .)

SO . . . I'm taking a leap of faith and a stand for myself and my family, and I am asking all of you for your support.

For my 100th blog post I am challenging myself to lose 100 pounds. Or at least come pretty close to it. If I do it, I'll be thinner than I have been well, probably since 7th grade . . . but I will be within my healthy weight range.

I know that this is not going to be easy or fast . . . so I'm not going to give myself a 'lose by' date. I'm just going to consistently work toward it and I will update you as I go along.

Feel free to leave tips . . .and especially ENCOURAGEMENT . . . or let me know if you're going to take this journey with me!

Have a great LEAP DAY!

My newest health inspiration

I want to share a new website I found . . . well, kind of found . . . okay so it was on a link at the end of an email . . .

This is a website about my friend Kristen who is blogging about her weight loss experience and wanting to be an inspiration to others who are trying to lose weight. I was very inspired and am really happy that she is doing this. SHE LOOKS GREAT!!!

Don't you think????

I am ready to get back on track myself, thanks to her and this awesome website. Check it out - great food reviews and recipes. :-)

Have a great evening.

PSA - Update

Yes, as Allison pointed out . . . the flu shot does not help against the Type A Influenza that is going around. I heard that several times yesterday. However, they are saying that it is still better than not having a flu shot at all, because it can still help the symptoms somewhat.

I also learned that if you get a prescription for Tamiflu when the first symptoms show up (or when you know you've been exposed) then that can help as well. So we are doing that for our younger two children, as soon as Wal-mart gets some in stock again!

I am not looking forward to all this sickness. So far, my 7 year old seems to be bouncing back a little bit and her fever is subsiding.

But - it snowed enough to actually cover things last night - so at least we have something pretty to look at while being at home, yes?

Public Service Announcement - GET A FLU SHOT

Please. Get a flu shot. And get your kids vaccinated as well.

I have a 7 year old with influenza and 2 younger kids who were exposed. It is not going to be a fun week.

Here is some information on the flu vaccine from the CDC. Read it. Do it.

Thanks.

Weight Loss Journey - Update 3

I kind of hit a plateau for a while - but I'm back to losing again! Yay!

I've been doing pretty well with walking and drinking water - and eating most of the right foods. I am happy to say, I'm down 17 pounds!! I may not be losing it as fast as I'd like - but I'd rather lose it slowly and keep it off, rather than losing it quickly and then gaining twice as much back.

Weight Loss Journey - Update 2

I'm still doing pretty well on this weight loss journey. I have to admit - I haven't been as tired as I usually am - and I am more focused. That is good. I was to the point where I wanted to take a nap every day and those naps would be for a couple of hours. NOT GOOD.

I have stuck MOSTLY to the food plan -- I let myself have a Extra Dark Chocolate miniature once in a while - but it hasn't seem to hurt anything (before, I would have eaten half a bag of them!)

Anyway - I have lost 14 pounds!!! Yay!!!

It's so funny - this plan tells you that you should reward yourself when you meet your goals . . . and my first thought of a reward is . . . FOOD. ::sighs:: How did we become a culture that is so caught up in FOOD??? I really have to rework my brain.

I know that food is an addiction for me. I got so upset with my husband the other night. You see, he quit smoking in January of last year. It was VERY difficult for him (and he had tried quitting numerous times). But he did it -- it has been a year and a half since he had a cigarette. He is on this food plan with me - but men, of course, can lose weight so much easier than women. So, he can cheat now and then and it won't affect him. Well, he decided he wanted popcorn the other night. The mere mention of it made me drool. I told him it was as if I had waved a cigarette in his face when he was trying to quit. BUT - I resisted the urge. And . . . so did he, for my sake, I think.

I'm on my way to a healthier me!!!

Weight Loss Journey - Update 1

I just wanted to update that I've lost 12 pounds total and 5 inches off my body (2 of that in my waist.) I've been exercising for at least 30 minutes each day (nothing strenuous, just keeping my heart rate up.) I've already got more energy and I'm starting to feel better. :-)

In other news, I've been very busy with work and school and have not had time to write a new blog entry of any consequence. I am hoping to do that sometime before Friday.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Iz

The Weight Loss Journey!!!

Well - yesterday, my husband and I started a weight loss journey together. We want to be healthy and around longer for our children.

Please pray for us to STICK WITH IT and be an encouragement to each other.

More later . . .
